Tagaytay – quick getaway 2: Restaurant and food places

Like I said on my previous post, I will be talking about FOOD for the second part of this blog, Tagaytay – quick getaway. Food is actually my favorite topic (Can’t you tell sa taba ko? hehehe). Since we’re usually on budget and of course, being kuripot too, I was only able to try few expensive restaurants in Tagaytay, and I will be posting my reviews for these places. For those that I haven’t tried yet, I’ll still give some few infos about the place like the location and the price range. I will try my best to be accurate lalo na sa location but I welcome any correction/s from you guys. I’m really bad with geography and directions kasi. So anyway, umpisahan na natin ang usapang pagkain!!! 🙂

Let me start with the cheapest places to eat at Tagaytay. Where else but the  karinderyas (eateries) and fastfood chains! Let’s just say you could have a full meal for 2 persons at around 400 and below.

Most inexpensive places to eat (400 and below):

1. Mahogany Market – Since our itenerary in Tagaytay always includes buying beef at Mahogany Market, we automatically go at the strips of eatery in this area for our fill of that steaming Bulalo soup. At 350.00, they will serve you a pot good for about 4 persons. They also serve different dishes like kare kare, caldereta, pakbet, lechon kawali, etc… which are about 80-100 per order. They also have fried tilapia and tawilis for fish lovers. I don’t remember how much tilapia costs but Tawilis is at 100/plate good for 3 persons. Btw, if you eat here, you will always always get free pineapple or senyorita (small  but sweet banana) for dessert. Usually nga nagte-take out pa ko ng senyorita para sa byahe for my daughter Kiara who absolutely goes gaga for her love of banana (suki na kasi kami kaya the tinderos / tinderas let me take extra 2-3 bananas to go hehehe)

2. Fastfood at Robinsons Summit Ridge – I won’t make too much introduction about the food in this list since marami na namang kumakain sa mga fastfoods below.

> Shakeys – Well, Bunch of Lunch lang ang katapat kung nagtitipid. Heavy na sya, almost complete pa, pwede ka na lang mag add ng rice. It’s less than 200 kaya ok na rin ang price nya 🙂

> Classic Savory – they have their sulit meals, check it out…

> Giligan’s – I love their sisig!

> Ted’s La Paz Batchoy

> Bacolod Chicken Inasal

3. Fastfood and eateries around Tagaytay Rotonda

> Jollibee

> Andoks – they have a spacious restaurant that not only serves inihaw na manok but other common dishes like pakbet, chopsuey, sinigang na baboy, etc…. They also serve inihaw na bangus and barbeque. We like it here kasi affordable and nakakabusog. Makakamura kayo dito pag group

> Mang Inasal

4. Fastfood at Tagaytay Nasugbu Highway

> Jollibee near Bag of Beans

>  McDonalds near Taal Vista and Casino Filipino

> Mushroom Burger – Very famous. I tried the burger here kaya lang more than 4 years ago, hindi pa ako nakakabalik. I forgot the taste na but I’ll come back soon then make a short post about it here

Meals for 2 at P401 – 800

1. Restaurants at Tagaytay – Nasugbu Highway

> Max’s Restaurant – This is my go-to place for chicken. I also like their kare-kare, the cow’s face (skin only) is cooked perfectly, it almost melts in your mouth

> Gerry’s Grill – My husband and I love their grilled squid. The best!!! Gerry’s Grill is consistent sa luto ng squid, kahit saang branches (well, in  my experience). Just perfect, not chewy, I have never had an overcooked grilled squid here ever (again, based on my experience ha, syempre it might be different with yours) I have been trying to replicate that sauce. Sweet with a little hint of tanginess that we just love. Yun lang di namin makuha kaasar 😦  They also serve Crispy pata which I really like. They used to have group meals, I like to treat my friends and officemates here before when I was still working. I find their group meals affordable and the servings are pretty hefty too. Now I’m not sure if they still offer group meals in their menu

> Celina’s Cafe and Restaurant (Eat-all-you-can restaurant just beside Gerry’s grill) – Haven’t tried it yet but the rate here is around P300/hd

> Yellow Cab – Charlie Chan’s pasta is always the best choice for me 🙂 I don’t like their spaghetti and meatballs. I don’t like pizza that much so I may be a bad choice for a Reviewer when it comes to Pizza baka wala akong sabihing masarap kundi ung Lots’ a Pizza hahaha. Okay din ung hand-tossed pizza from Shakeys

> RSM Lutong Bahay – I have eaten here twice and both times I felt dissappointed. In fairness, it was a long time ago, like mga 2011 so maybe they improved already, it might be worth trying now (though I have read so many reviews recently and many are still saying that the food is just mediocre). The food here are really bland. I gave them another try (same year), they just have this amazing place kasi, overlooking Taal and you can also ask to be seated outside sa mga nipa huts nila. So I told myself na I’ll try some other dishes baka naman meron lang silang specialty at nataon ung mga naorder namin before are not one of them. Well, sadly, they failed yet again. Even my friends said, “Tins ba’t ganun ang mahal pero di naman masarap?” Well, I guess we paid for the place. Incredible area they have, I just wish that they would improve on their cooking. Again, I’m just sharing my experience, you might have a better experience  here, but we have different preferences naman. Yun lang, pati ung mga friends and family ko na dinala ko rito, they were all disappointed sa food. Overrated and un nga overpriced daw.

> Bali Seafood – Masarap talaga dito! So good, but unfortunately the serving is small. We ordered for their seafood platter. It was barely enough for 3, bitin. Pero kasi ang sarap talaga!!! I like their place, madilim lang pero mas romantic 🙂 I recommend this place.

> Carlo’s Pizza – Again, I don’t want to comment here, hello Pizza?! hehe I know there are other dishes kaso I don’t like their pasta that much.

> Teriyaki Boy – Japanese restaurant (or is this considered a fastfood? I don’t know) Is it bad that everytime we eat here, I don’t try anything else but their Teriyaki Boy Chicken and Bento? Basta I just love that succulent chicken and their sauce. The best talaga!

> Mile Hi – Haven’t tried the food here yet

2. Restaurants at Sky Ranch

> Kenny Rogers – their group meals are awesome. My favorite side dishes are Mac & Cheese and Corn & carrots

> Uncle Cheffy – tried this at Prism Plaza in MOA. Go for their Pot Roast Beef, ow may God! Basta, try it yourself. I’m sure you’ll love it. Of course their super thin Panizza is a must-try too (pasok to sa panlasa ko even if it’s still technically a Pizza)!

> Red Engine – haven’t tried the food here yet

3. Robinson’s Summit Ridge

> Razon’s – Famous for Halo Halo

> Sizzling Pepper Steak – Ok lang mejo masyado lang ma-pepper (engot ko lang pepper steak nga eh haha)

> Rai Rai Ken -Haven’t tried the food here yet

Other restaurants around Tagaytay I haven’t tried yet:

> Hellenic Tavern

> Mano’s Greek Taverna

> Buon Giorno

> Viewpoint Restaurant

> Tootsie’s Home-Cooked Specialties

> The Inn at the Cliffhouse

> Cafe Briton

> Memory Lane – Magallanes Drive

> LZM Magalanes Square

Maybe one of these days, basta may budget, I’ll have a go at any of the 2 Greek restaurants on the list above, I’m really curious. I’ll just update this post for my reviews.

Most expensive restaurants (801 and up for 2 persons)

> Antonio’s Tagaytay – Brgy Neogan, Tagaytay

– I had to put this restaurant on top of my “most expensive restaurants” list. Not only in Tagaytay but this is actually one of the most expensive even in the whole Metro. Eating here would roughly cost you about 4,000.00 for 2 persons! Yess 4K!!! and that may not cover your appetizer and dessert, just the mains. Why is it so expensive here? Because everything’s seems to be perfect here, judging from the general review of the place. Unfortunately, I haven’t tried it here yet kaya I can’t say it for myself. But the setting / ambiance is truly elegant. We had an ocular visit here,  when Jun and I were hunting for our wedding reception. Jun wasn’t able to come inside because they have a very very strict dress code and that time, he forgot to bring his shoes, he’s just wearing slippers nung nagda-drive sya. I was able to come inside and go around the area.  Everything speaks of first class. Oh no, not the generic first class hotel look but more of an elegant-but-still-approachable kind of look that makes this place more charming for me.  You know you’re in a very posh place, but you could still move with ease. I would’ve wanted to have my wedding here ang mahal lang talaga 😦 Oh btw, dining here is STRICTLY by appointment walang walk-in. O di ba bongga.

> Leslie’s (Tagaytay – Nasugbu Hway and Skyranch)

– I ate at Leslie’s Tagaytay with my officemates and they have good bulalo nga. The rest are okay, nothing really exemplary. Leslie’s Alabang offers buffet, I ate here once many many years ago and the rate that time was around 300+ / hd with about less than 30 dishes served if I remember it correctly. Again, nothing spectacular,  that’s why I haven’t eaten here again since I wasn’t really satisfied.

> Bag of Beans (Near Alfonso)Breakfast Buffet

– I know this is a famous spot. I haven’t had the chance to eat here before though. Shet andami ko pa palang unexplored kainan sa list ko, I don’t have a right to call myself a foodie! hehehe matry ko nga this March pag nakabalik kami sa Tagaytay. They have ala carte in their menu but they also offer buffet. Here are the rates:

Adults: 495.00

Kids (4-8 yrs old): 247.50

Brunch Buffet

Adults: 595.00

Kids (4-8 yrs old): 297.50

> Josephine’s Restaurant

– Nice place especially the back area which doubles as reception for big groups and events. Overlooking Taal. I thought their buffet was so-so. Like BOB, they also offer ala carte but Josephine’s is more famous for their buffet. Here are the buffet rates (from their website):

Breakfast Buffet Weekends:
-P475.00+ per person
-P375.00+ children below 4ft
-P100 discount for no left over

Lunch Buffet
Weekends:

-P550.00+ per person
-P450.00+ children below 4ft
-P100 discount for no left over

> Pamana Restaurant

– Haven’t tried yet. I’m curious about this place, I remember reading from somewhere that this is owned by the Ongpauco’s. Matry nga minsan 🙂

> Sonya’s Garden

– Check my comment about this place on my first blog. Here’s the link:

And of course, mawawala ba ang coffee shop for those people who just wants to chill in Tagaytay? There are I think about 3 Starbucks that I know of, one near Carlo’s Pizza, one in Tagaytay-Calamba Rd and one in Summit Ridge.  Then Figaro and Mocha Blends.

Last but not the least, let’s talk about souvenirs, more specifically the pastries na pasalubong. Tagaytay is  famous for establishments selling tarts and pies. If your having a tough time thinking about pasalubong for your loved ones, worry no further as Loumar’s, Amira’s and Rowena’s will help you with that. They have lots of varieties, you would want to try all 🙂

So there it is! Finally, that was one heck of a list for me! Whewww!!! Mejo mahirap ang post na ito because of the overwhelming number of restaurants in the area. I just realized, andami ko pa palang pagkakagastusan! Hahaha… But I can’t try them all, that’s financial suicide 🙂 Sana may magsponsor bwahaha joke! But actually, one reason why I have not explored the food scene here that much is everytime we’re here, we’re always in a hurry. Weekends for me is my workday actually. Kaya laging side trip lang ang Tagaytay.

But anyway, I hope you guys like my list. Again, I know there are still lots of food places I haven’t included here yet. I’m just trying to free my schedule this March then we’ll be off to Tagaytay so I can get more info because I really want my blog to be as accurate as possible. But do feel free to suggest and make comment/s if you want to add more on the list or if you just have any clarifications or corrections open po tayo jan.

Til my next blog loves!!!

Tins ❤ ❤ ❤ 🙂
